Grey Mare Lane Police HQ, Gorton Manchester

Scope of Works:

Following a tender process we were appointed by PP O’Connor Limited to carry out the full demolition internal strip to the former East Manchester Police headquarters.

 

The site comprised of four main buildings, two of which were five storeys in height and these were joined by two more buildings that were single storey.  The internal soft strip had to be coordinated with the licensed asbestos removal works that were being carried out at the same time.  These works were managed and coordinated by the PPO site manager on a daily basis.

 

The buildings that had been vacant for quite some time had also undergone extensive vandalism.  Our first operation was to remove all debris to corridors, walkways and stairs to ensure that access to emergency escape routes were unrestricted.

 

Works comprised of the removal of all vandalised debris, loose and fixed furniture, materials associated with the former police headquarters, floor finishes, ceilings both fixed and suspended, including grids, hangers and supports etc.  All non loadbearing walls, partitions and M+E installations.

 

Works were carried out over a six week period with an average of 12-14 men on site at all times.
